Annual International Field School FORESTA

International summer field school FORESTA is organized for bachelor and master students majoring in natural sciences.

The School's mission is to give its participants insight into typical ecosystems of high latitudes, biodiversity management and methods of ecosystems protection, as well as to ignite discussion of problems in the Arctic region and the past, present and future role of human beings in the biosphere transformation.

Fee
Participation in the School is free. Participants get to Arkhangelsk and back on their own.
The hosts cover
- accommodation at students' dorm for the period from June 07 to June 12;
- meals (lunches, dinners) in Arkhangelsk;
-meals and accomodation at the Kenozero National Park;
- transfer within the School program;
- excursions within the School program.

Must-have list
  • Comfortable shoes
    For example, tracking shoes. We recommend you to have a spare pair of shoes in case the first one gets wet.
  • A warm sweater
    For your information: it was snowing in Arkhangelsk on May 23rd in 2024...
  • Windproof jacket
    It may be windy here.
  • Raincoat or umbrella
    Light rain will not be an obstacle for a field trip.
  • Head-dress
    Hat or cap is required for field trips
  • Sunscreen
    Heat and large amount of ultraviolet are not excluded even in the North.
  • Required medication
    If you are taking any medications, do not forget to take them with you. Assemble a first aid kit that can be useful for any trip..
  • Mosquito and tick repellent
    We highly recommend to get vaccinated in advance against tick-borne encephalitis or arrange insurance against tick bite.
  • Sleep (eye) mask
    During the period of white nights, the night practically does not differ from the day. It will be light around the clock. The mask will help to avoid sleep problems.
  • Laptop
    It makes project work easier.
